Product recalls are not what they used to be 20 years ago. The internet has paved the way for increased awareness of product recalls, which should decrease injuries due to defective products. Despite product recalls, those injured by a defective product may have a valid products liability claim against the manufacturer, distributor or retailer of the product.
Below are some recalls from April and May, 2012:
- 48,000 Travel Chargers
Sakar International Inc. of Edison, New Jersey recalled nearly 50,000 travel battery chargers due to failure of plastic casing resulting in risk of electrocution or electric shock. For more information, read the Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice.
- 13,000 ThinkCentre Desktop Computers
Lenovo recalled another 13,000 ThinkCentre desktop computers, after recalling over 50,000 in March, 2012. There is a risk of fire due to overheating of an internal component. For more information, read the CPSC recall notice.
- 2,000 Riding Lawnmowers
Exmark recalled over 2,000 of its Quest ZRT riding mowers due to a crash hazard. For more information, read the CPSC recall notice.
New Jersey law recognizes three kinds of product liability claims: manufacturing defect, failure to warn, and defective design. Injured victims may recover for pain and suffering, lost wages, medical bills and more. It is important to preserve the product and contact a trusted, knowledgeable products liability lawyer immediately, so that the product can be tested properly.
